Frequently asked questions
Do I own what I write?
Yes. You own everything you create in FictionForge, including text the agents write at your direction. We don't claim any rights to your manuscripts, outlines or notes.
Is my writing used to train AI?
No. We don't use your writing to train AI models, and we don't sell your data. Your agents run on Anthropic's Claude, which doesn't train on API input by default.
What counts as an AI drafting word?
Words of prose that Quill writes or rewrites for you: scene drafts, tightening and line edits. Brainstorming, your Story Bible, outlines and conversations with your crew don't use words, and neither does anything you type yourself.
Are the Author Tools free?
The calculators (word count, reading time, chapter length, KDP royalties and pricing) are free for everyone, with no account. The AI tools come with every plan, including the free one, and run on your plan's AI allowance: brainstorming, naming, planning and feedback tools use the planning allowance, and tools that write or rewrite prose count toward your AI drafting words, the same as drafting with Quill.
What happens if I run out of words?
Your allowance resets every month. If you need more before then, a word pack adds 20,000 words for $5 as a one-time purchase, with no change to your subscription. Pack words carry over until you use them, or you can upgrade for a bigger monthly allowance.
What is a deep manuscript analysis?
One run of the heaviest editorial tools: a pacing and structure analysis of your whole manuscript, Sage's revision plan, or a Sage developmental edit pass. Author includes 3 a month and Novelist includes 10. Continuity checks, Nova's line edits and conversations with Sage don't count toward it.
Can I export my manuscript?
Yes, on every plan, including the free one: Word (.docx), PDF, EPUB, plain text and Markdown, with a title page carrying your title and pen name.
Is there an annual plan?
Yes. Paying annually gives you two months free: $150 a year for Author and $290 a year for Novelist.
What's in the Publishing Forge?
Tools for getting a finished book in front of agents and readers: a query letter builder, a synopsis writer, a blurb writer and a submission packet. It's included with the Novelist plan.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Upgrade, downgrade or cancel from Settings, under Manage subscription. When a paid subscription ends your account moves to the free Apprentice plan, and your books stay in your account: you can still open, edit and export them.
